Best news I've heard all week

On another happy note, I would like to give my kudos to the Tiki Terrace restaurant in Prospect Heights. I'll take that ukulele now thank you.

I am moving cubicles at work. I am moving by the windows and we are kind of consolidating the library crew. I am very excited. There is a beautiful lake type thing outside with a walkway and swans and the rare egret. I can also see the top of the new Sears Centre. Bob Dylan is going to be there next month.

I have also put a picture of me and Henry Winkler on my desk. I"m telling people he's my Dad. Most people don't even recognize him. He still looks like the Fonz to me.

Things We Did on the Sept 16-17 Weekend:
Picked out a light for the garage
Picked out colors to paint the garage
Dug up a dead bush in the backyard
Started to add new mulch to the flower beds
Jumped into our icy (74 degree) pool to retrieve two rocks
Drove to Schaumburg to look at lighting
Watched a Star Trek episode full of Jewish symbolism
Took Metra to the Renegade Craft Fair with Karin
Ate at Potbelly Sandwiches
Saw lots of dogs and puppies
Got caught in a rainstorm
Bought a tiki themed print at the Fair mentioned above
Made spaghetti and sauce that wasn't saucy enough

Back from a quick trip to Louisville KY to visit my buddy Karen. Lovely town. We ate lovely food at Lynn's Paradise Cafe. I had the Fried green tomato BLT. Yum yum yum! Honestly I didn't expect too much from this place b/c at first I thought the name wasn't too inspiring. I was so wrong! It is kitschy in the best sense of the word. So nifty that Martin and Karen agreed that if I had a restaurant it would look like this place.
We also purchased some Richard Cheese at a indie record store called Ear Xtacy. We also were hunting for ironic unicorns but alas, the ones I sought were not to be found.
We had wanted to witness some horse racing at Churchill Downs but that doesn't get going until the end of September. So we are planning a return trip!
We dragged Karen the Louisville Slugger museum, which she had already visited. It was pretty cool, but i can totally understand how it was not that cool if you have to go again and again. Martin bought a bat to fight off intruders and maybe play ball someday. Who knows. It's a lovely black bat. I've never seen him happier.
We also checked out the 21C Museum Hotel downtown. It had some creepy art, like a big red wig on a taxidermied turkey and then some really cool art like this big screen of words that showered down on you and you could stop them with your hand. It's hard to explain. They also had black toilet paper. There is very little wrong with a town that has a hotel this groovy.

So does anyone remember that SNL fake commercial about baby wigs? I think that Cruise baby is wearing one on the new Vanity Fair cover. I know that is mean, but wow, that is one headfull of hair!

So this guy at work changed his name from Something Something Junior because he felt that it wasn't his own name, like he was constantly in his fathers footsteps and didn't feel like he could ever be his own person. I like that. I wish other parents would realize that.

I started making cupcakes last night for Martin's birthday. They have yet to be frosted. Martin ate 4 of them last night, the entire time saying they tasted like a sweet cornbread muffin. So from now on maybe I'll just make cupcakes. I wonder how cupcake mix and cornbread mixwould taste if I blended them together to make one Super Cornbread Cupcake? Sounds tempting for sure.

11 Days til the new season of The Amazing Race. I just love that show! But why are they bringing back the stupid modeling/beauty queen teams? Why not NORMAL people???

Hope everyone had a glorious Labor Day weekend. We stayed around the house. I went searching for illusive curtains for our guest room. No luck yet.

So today is the day of judgement at work. I start having to do real live chats with students. This should be a fun and new way to show the world just how mediocre and less than perfect I really am.

On the up-side, I won about $150 at the horse track in Arlington on Saturday. Then we got a huge free appetizer at Durty Nellie's in Palatine with one of our many many losing tickets. Dave went with us and then loaned me his game of Black & White 2.

And how in the world and I supposed to tell my boss that I have days I can't work because of religious obligations??? They already think I'm some sort of mutant because I'm from the South. Just wait til they realize I'm jewish too. "Double Freak" might be my new nickname.
